What Do You Think?

Posted by Dan Bolin on OP4er @ 16:11
“The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father.”
Charles Spurgeon
Recently, I walked past a t-shirt that read, We teach people HOW to think, not WHAT to think. I could not see the name of the school on the shirt that crafted this slogan, but I’m a big fan of helping people learn HOW to think.

We need to ask probing questions, evaluate experiences, compare and contrast, and deepen conversations. However, I’m also very big on content. WHAT we know is critically important.

Jesus was a big fan of helping people ‘discover truth.’ Both words - discover and truth - are significant. He was a master at asking questions to open, extend, and deepen conversations. And He had life-changing content.

While walking to Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked His disciples two questions. The first was an icebreaker: Who do people say the Son of Man is? The second deepened and personalized the conversation: But what about you? Who do you say I am? The questions taught them to think, reflect, and evaluate.

Then Jesus moved to content. “Simon Peter answered“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 16:13-17) Learning to think is important, but learning truth is critical!

On September 17, 2017 in Kiev, Ukraine, CCI-Ukraine is representing Christian Camping at the National Thanksgiving Day organized by Evangelical Churches of Ukraine in the main street of Ukraine's capital city. It's going to be a big, festive, day-long event. Lots of families with children are expected to be out there. Christian ministries from across Ukraine will be represented. Nick Vujicic will give the keynote address. Please pray that CCI-Ukraine will come up with the right ideas in preparation for this important event and then put together all the needed resources, including equipment and volunteer help, so people will enjoy it, God will be glorified, and more campers will attend Christian camps this winter and next summer.

Please pray for Christian Camping Community Malaysia who will be holding a small gathering of Christian camping leaders on October 3. This is one of the two important events to be held in 2017. Pray for attendance and that more Christian camping leaders will see the opportunity to use camping as an intentional tool for the furtherence of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This August a camp for young people who work in the garbage dump outside of Tegucigalpa, Honduras is being held thanks to the joining of forces from CCI-Latin America in Honduras, a short-term missions team from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, (from one of Lisa Anderson-Umana's supporting churches) and an urban ministry called AFE (Love, Faith, Hope School). Six leaders from this urban ministry have been trained by CCI. Pray these young leaders continue using the vision and skills they learned to minister at the school and help these young people to grow up in Christ.

In the near future, 70-80 youth leaders from more than a dozen cities will meet for training in Pakistan. Please pray for effective training and the needed finances to hold this event.

We would like prayer for the leaders of South Africa as the eighth attempt to remove the president from his position has failed.
We would again like prayer for rain in the Western Cape Province as the dam levels are below 28% after their rainy season. The lack of rain in the Western Cape has a direct impact to all South Africans for the next 12 months.

CCI-UK asks for continued prayer for a new Finance Officer. Please also pray for all those children and young people going to CCI member camps over the summer, that they may be safe and stretched at the same time, discovering more about themselves and God in their temporary communities.

CCI-East Africa board would like prayers as they plan for the up coming Annual training taking place September 4-8: Please pray for the venue and weather that it will be favorable. Pray for the program that it will be well received and impact full. Pray for the facilitators that they will be chosen by God, that they will be after God's heart and will be able to deliver the program to impact lives.

Please continue to pray for the leader of CCI-Romania Andreas van der Elst, his pregnant wife and their son Levi Her pregnancy is going well and this fall, they are expecting a little girl. Please continue to pray they can find a house to live in.

CC-South Africa would like to thank the Lord for His presence and providence during the dry winter season when camping income are very low. Also, the High Court declared on June 28 that it offends the Schools Act for a public school to promote only one religion. Although this is not good news, we still have an open door in public schools to glorify the Name of Jesus Christ.
