Texas in Springtime - April 13, 2010

I started running about 20 years ago and have waddled up and down the back roads of East Texas to support my physical, mental and spiritual health.  I've not been too consistent but the past few years I've tried to be faithful to my morning roadway commitment.  I do it because it is good for me but occasionally I train to run in a "race".

Last Saturday I ran a 5K race in College Station, Texas.  Fortunately, not too many people entered the race and my 26:55 time earned me 3rd place and a bronze medal among the men 50 years of age and older.  My younger and leaner brother finished 1st in our age division.  My wife, Cay, won her age category as well!  It pays to swim in a very small pond.

The three-hour drive between Tyler and College Station was spectacular. Texas wildflowers carpeted the roadside. Bluebonnets, paintbrush, coreopsis, black-eyes-Susans, clover and a host of nameless wonders covered the meadows along our way.  Nuddin' purdier than Texas in springtime.
