Idaho - August 2011
Idaho is very, very beautiful; at least the eastern part where my wife, daughter, son-in-law and I spent a week of vacation earlier this month. Green fields of alfalfa carpeted the fertile valleys that rolled into forests of towering trees that in turn blanketed the wild hills that buttressed the magnificent Teton Mountains.I’ll share just a few impressions and remembrances of a great trip.
The fishing was good – but not great. You should have seen the one that got away!
Old Faithful – the most famous geyser in Yellowstone Park – erupted on schedule.
We hiked to a waterfall and wind cave several miles outside of Driggs, Idaho, and enjoyed a picnic lunch.
I bought a new cowboy hat in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on the way to Idaho to protect my skin-cancer prone balding head.
We watched the reenactment of a shootout in downtown Jackson, Wyoming, before attending the evening rodeo.
I was “authorized” to carry the bear spray on hikes since the group determined the slowest runner was most likely to need it!
Food tastes better at higher elevations. It was a seven pound vacation!
Attending church on Sunday morning in a small log-cabin just inside Teton National Park was a treat.
Attending the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival Sunday afternoon was also a treat.
Time with Cay, Haley and John in the beauty of God’s creation was the best!
Great to take some time off but great to be back.We returned to 100+ degree heat (38+ Celsius) in Texas with a car full of memories that will last a lifetime.
